Environment and Sustainability

The great challenge of the 21st century is understanding our environment,  how we have affected the natural world, and how to ameliorate those effects. These efforts require a knowledge base that spans the natural sciences, social sciences and the humanities.

The Department of Environment and Sustainability (EVS) provides inter- and trans-disciplinary education to UB undergraduate and graduate students and fosters scholarly activities within the department, with other units within the University, and with the greater Buffalo community. Integrating degree programs and research that span the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, the Department produces graduates who are broadly informed citizens, researchers, managers, and stewards of the Earth’s environments and resources.
